“I set aside life’s interferences in order to paint from a place of personal imagination and introspection. I yearn to feel the vibration between myself and the world. It is my connection to humanity and nature. Through intuitive and gestural brushwork the painting evolves – usually in layered surfaces.”
-Cindy Delpart
Cindy Delpart was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She studied graphic design at George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario from 1974-1976. For the past 50 years she has resided in Calgary, Alberta where she has maintained a studio practice. Until recently Delpart would also work from her studio in a small community of artisans in Southwestern, Saskatchewan. It was here in the vast landscape that traces her childhood roots she attended a workshop and 2 residencies at the famed Emma Lake Artist Workshop.
Delpart approaches her painting from an emotional place — never seeking for a realistic depiction but a spontaneous and expressive response to personal experiences and memories. She feels no reason to use reference instead every stroke of her brush (or broom) reacts to the one before. Working predominantly in acrylic Delpart’s work moves between abstraction and figuration as she explores the surface and colour in her composition.
